HOW CHOSE FIELD: I loved science as a child. I was always taking things apart and studying how things work.
PROUD OF: Our yet-to-be-discovered cure for diabetic kidney disease and related cancers. It will happen!
DEFINING CAREER MOMENT: In college in the early 1960's, the female head of the chemistry department said, "Unless you want to teach, switch to biology." I was totally discouraged because I excelled in chemistry, but it turned out to be a great thing.
KEYS TO SUCCESS: Perseverance, optimism, and not having a lot of preconceived notions.

GREATEST PASSION: To be a great grandmother, mother, wife, and friend and at the same time, discover the drug that will help diabetics.
LEADERSHIP TIP: I don't see myself a leader, but my passion is catching.
ADVICE TO PASS ON: Don't give up. Keep hope and faith.
BEST ADVICE RECEIVED: Don't be too proud to ask for help.
FOR A LAUGH: I'm a New Yorker and love all sarcastic comedy, especially the Daily Show with Jon Stewart and the Colbert Report.
